November 16 - Dubrovnik

Wow! Three blockbuster cities in a row! Dubrovnik could possibly be our new favorite city! We took the highly-touted walk on the city walls.... fortresses, towers, crenellations and an ancient footpath along the entire 2 km extent.

This stone-built red-roofed city is absolutely enchanting! And best of all.... there are no automobiles!

The Stradum is the main street....

....and is paved with time-polished pale marble!

The ravages of recent troubles have been healed, and once again this magical walled city, with its marble streets and palaces, provides a feast for the eyes. The only remnants of the siege of Dubrovnik in 1991-92 are a few pockmarked buildings and the brighter red of newly tiled roofs.

We can easily understand why George Bernard Shaw said, "Those who seek paradise on earth should come to Dubrovnik."

We also agree with Byron that Dubrovnik and its spectacular harbor are the "Pearl of the Adriatic."

Every time we round a corner, another exquisite scene greets us!

All this.... and a perfect climate too!

If this seaside cafe carved into the rocks weren't so far down we would stop for a refreshment!

The ambience in Dubrovnik is like nowhere else along the Dalmatian coast.

We're not even cat people.... but these Croatian kittens were just too cute!

This looks like a painting.... but it's real!

All the nooks and crannies and angles are so fascinating!

We climbed so high that Chuck equated this venture to the Sydney Harbour bridge climb!

What a day!!
